bump #65: it only takes one

After extracting 15 follicles yielding 9 eggs that became 7 fertilized embryos, we were left with only 3 blastocysts. We transferred 2, leaving just 1 to freeze for next time.

After all those injections and ultrasounds and stress over what to do if we ended up with a boat load of embryos that's an image! And there is just 1 remaining.

But one is all it takes. So we are grateful for the one.

  1. Having one left to freeze is great!! For my first FOUR IVF's I was left with none! I'm hoping and praying that the frozen embryo you have only has to someday be used for a sibling :). xo

  4. The aftermath of the retrieval might be the hardest part of IVF. I wasn't expecting that. I thought the shots, the bloat, the retrieval... I thought that would be the hard part, but really it's once the eggs are out. It's the hours after the retrieval waiting to hear a fertilization report, waiting for the call for day 3/5, waiting for the report on frozen embryos... all of that and that's separate from the misery of the wait for beta day. Those days following the retrieval I literally felt like my heart was living outside my chest. I felt like you could blow on it and freeze it solid, bump it and cause it to explode. I felt to vulnerable because my babies were struggling to live and there was NOTHING I could do. I'm sure you're disappointed.... everyone dreams of BIG numbers. I know I was extremely disappointed. But you're right there in the normal range... 9 eggs down to 3 blasts is a pretty standard attrition rate. You did REALLY well, Bren. Hoping your snowflake baby stays on ice for a few years before coming home as a SIBLING!
